Saturday morning, Dec. 5, at the Phoenix Convention Center.
This is an exciting addition to the NSTA Science Conference! Bill Nye, the science guy, Exxon Mobil and others are sponsoring this FREE community event. You do not have to be registered for the conference to go to this. It sounds very exciting! Kids are welcome, too!

Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) is enabling its stakeholders to participate in the District’s Strategic Planning Process by conducting focus groups at each school. The focus group will help develop new vision and mission statements for SUSD. The information will be analyzed by the Governing Board and District administration. These statements will provide the framework for future planning efforts and guide the Board in its decision making. LUNCH MONEY
You can set up a safe and secure account for your student so they don't have to carry cash to school or forget it at home. They access the account with their student I.D. You have control of how much they are allowed to spend daily and you can put money into their account either in person or online. Go to MyLunchMoney to set up your account.
SPORTS PROGRAMS AND PHYSICALS
SUSD to Offer Middle School Sports for 7th and 8th graders.

For the 2009-10 school year, Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) will offer a viable athletic program for our middle school students. SUSD has analyzed many models and has chosen a two tiered program – an All Included Tier and a Competitive Tier – to meet the needs of all middle school students.
The fees for the new program will be $60 for the all included tier and an additional $30 for students invited to participate in the competitive tier.
The sports seasons will be as follows:
- Boys Baseball and Girls Basketball – August 17th – October 8th
- Boys Basketball and Girls Softball – October 19th – December 17th
- Coed Passing Football and Girls Volleyball – January 4th – March 4th
- Boys and Girls Track – March 15th – May 14th
All students participating in Middle School Sports are required to have a current annual physical examination card on file at the school prior to the start of the first practice. Read more…
The physical exam cards are available in the front office at IMS and must be completed before any student can tryout. A sports physical is valid for one school year.

Don't forget that Character Counts is on the IMS Campus. You are being watched for your outstanding behavior on campus. Recognition of your behavior can be rewarded.
The IMS Community will be on the lookout for students demonstrating excellent behavior. If someone is caught by a Staff or Student Council member, they receive a "Ticket" to be eligible for a prize drawing.

ALGEBRA 1
SUSD now issues high school credit towards graduation for students successfully completing Algebra 1 during their middle school years. In addition to the credit, students will earn grade points towards their high school Grade Point Average (GPA).
Middle school Algebra 1 is as rigorous as high school Algebra 1. The state standards are thoroughly covered plus extension activities are available to help students prepare for the rigor of high school honors mathematics.
The guidelines for curriculum, instruction, assessment, and record keeping of high school Algebra 1, also apply to middle school Algebra 1.
