Welcome to State and Federal Programs Department.

This area of the SUSD website is dedicated to providing information about grants and other related federal, state, and competitive funds that provide supplemental services and programs to the SUSD students, teachers and extended community.



The Grants Development & Administration
This group is responsible for entitlement, block, and formula grants, and other programming.

NCLB: Federal & State Entitlement Grants

 Title I
Purpose:  To help economically disadvantaged students achieve the state's academic standards by providing supplemental programs for instructional services, instructional support services, school wide reform efforts and increased parent involvement.


 Title II-A
Purpose:  To assure that teachers and paraprofessional educators meet highly qualified standards under the NCLB Act by providing further educational opportunities, incentives to work in understaffed and economically disadvantaged schools and professional training.


 Title II-D
Purpose:  To increase student academic achievement through the use of technology in schools, assure technology literacy and positively impact instruction through the use of technology.


 Title III
Purpose:  To provide high quality instruction to English Language Learners to assure they attain proficiency in the English language to meet the same challenging academic state standards in all core content areas as all children are expected to meet.


 Title IV & State Chemical Abuse
Purpose: To provide a safe school environment by reducing drugs, alcohol and tobacco use and violence in schools through prevention programming in the classrooms.


 Title VII
Purpose:  To reform and improve elementary and secondary education programs that serve Indian students.  Programs and activities funded are to be based on challenging state academic content and student achievement standards that all children must meet.


 Early Childhood Block Grant
Purpose:  To promote student achievement by providing additional funding for early childhood programming, Pre-K through grade 3.


 Gifted Education Funds
Purpose: To provide funds for training and development of gifted teachers and development of programs.


 K-3 Literacy Funds
Purpose:  The funds are provided by the state for the purpose of increasing literacy and reading and writing skills for early learners, K-3. SUSD uses the additional funds specifically for teacher professional development, providing instructional modeling, classroom support and materials for teachers to use in classrooms with students.


 Johnson-O'Malley (JOM)
Purpose:  To provide supplementary financial assistance to all eligible Indian students enrolled in SUSD to help them meet state content standards.


 Refugee Children
Purpose: The Department of Health Services, Office of Refugee Resettlement, has made available funds for School Districts and Charter Schools with Refugee children, who, for the purposes of this grant, are those children who have been given that designation upon admittance to the United States of America.  Limited English Proficiency is not the determiner of Refugee status.
